It took Dr. McNelly eight years to compile, and the end result pleased even Frank Herbert himself. The book is treated as a historical volume, written shortly after the findings of the Rakis Hoard. It discusses, in detail, events such as the Butlerian Jihad, the Zensunni Migration, and the forming of the Fish Speakers; people such as Jehanne Butler, I. V. Holtzman, and Paul Muad'Dib; and things like the Dune Tarot, crysknives, and the Galach language.
The initials W.E.M. following many entries in this book are those of Walter E. Meyers of NC State, Dept. of English. He is a good friend of Dr. Willis E. McNelly, whose initials appear as W.M.
